About

Hello there! My name is Greta, and I am the founder of Clay & Candle.

A few years back, I was given a holiday gift box that included a soy candle in a simple glass jar. I loved that candle! The wax melted perfectly, and it smelled like the woods. Pretty soon, I started experimenting with making my candles in leftover jars. My favorite was a fancy terra cotta yogurt container with a periwinkle blue glaze. I then started experimenting with other containers and combining my new candle hobby with my love of pottery!

Clay & Candle now offers both handmade ceramic and classic candles. Ceramic candles are primarily slip cast, as well as some wheel-thrown and hand-built forms. Classic candles are hand-poured into containers that are salvaged or selected based on their aesthetic qualities. We also love to do custom orders, including multi-candle orders for gifting and events.

Clay Process

Handmade ceramic containers are a labor of love requiring numerous steps to transform a lump of clay into a candle.

Candle Process

Clay & candle candles are designed and tested to ensure the quality and consistency of our products. Each candle container is matched to the appropriate wax, wick, and scent. After the appropriate combination is confirmed candles are hand-poured and hand packaged in small batches.

Quality candles are made with quality materials. We use:

  • Containers - that are reusable! Handmade ceramic containers are dishwasher and microwave safe.

  • Wax - and wax blends do not contain parrafin wax. clay & candle currently offers two types of candles, 100% soy wax and a soy/beeswax blend.

  • Wicks - are made with cotton wicks that do not contain zinc, lead, or other metals. No exceptions.

  • Scents - are composed of 100% phthalate-free fragrance oils.

  • Packaging - that is (whenever possible) recyclable. There is also a good chance you will receive shipment in a re-used box - thanks for your understanding! Packing peanuts can be dissolved in water.
